Healthy relationships aren’t defined by never experiencing conflict. They’re strengthened by learning how to understand one another, repair after difficult moments, and reconnect
What is Couples & Marriage Therapy?
Every relationship experiences challenges. Whether you’re navigating recurring conflict, recovering from an affair or other betrayals of trust, adjusting to parenthood, struggling with intimacy, or simply feeling disconnected, couples therapy provides a supportive space to better understand one another and strengthen your relationship.
Couples therapy is about more than talking through problems. It’s about understanding the patterns that shape your relationship, improving communication, and learning practical tools and strategies you can use beyond the therapy room. Together, we’ll work to strengthen your connection, navigate conflict more effectively, and build a healthier relationship.
My approach is collaborative, practical, and tailored to the unique needs of your relationship. Drawing from evidence-informed psychotherapy approaches, including the Gottman Method, I help couples better understand themselves and each other while developing meaningful skills that support lasting change. When appropriate, my additional training in perinatal mental health and sexual wellness allows us to explore challenges related to pregnancy, postpartum, the transition to parenthood, intimacy, and sexual well-being

Frequently Asked Questions About Couples & Marriage Therapy
What if we're having the same argument over and over again?
Many couples find themselves caught in recurring patterns where the topic changes, but the conflict feels familiar. Couples therapy helps you slow those moments down, better understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and develop new ways of communicating, repairing, and responding to one another.
Do both partners need to attend every session?
In most cases, yes. Couples therapy is designed to help both partners better understand one another and work toward shared goals. Occasionally, individual sessions may be recommended when clinically appropriate, but the primary focus remains on supporting the relationship.
Is couples therapy only for relationships in crisis?
Not at all. Many couples seek therapy to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, prepare for marriage, navigate life transitions, or deepen their connection before problems become more significant. Therapy can be valuable whether you’re facing ongoing challenges or simply want to invest in your relationship.
What if my partner is hesitant about therapy?
It’s common for one partner to feel more uncertain than the other. Therapy isn’t about assigning blame or deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, it provides a supportive, neutral space where both partners can feel heard, understood, and work toward healthier ways of relating to one another.
Can couples therapy help after an affair or betrayal?
Yes. While every relationship is different, couples therapy can provide a supportive space to explore what happened, rebuild communication, process difficult emotions, and determine what healing may look like for your relationship. Whether your goal is rebuilding trust or gaining clarity about your next steps, therapy can support those conversations.
What approaches do you use in couples therapy?
My approach is tailored to the unique needs of each couple. I draw from evidence-informed psychotherapy approaches, including the Gottman Method, while integrating my training in perinatal mental health and sex therapy, as well as other psychotherapy modalities when appropriate. Therapy focuses on helping couples better understand themselves and one another while developing practical tools they can use in everyday life.
Can couples therapy help with intimacy concerns?
Yes. Emotional and physical intimacy are often closely connected. Therapy can provide a safe, respectful space to explore concerns related to intimacy, sexual challenges, sexual well-being, communication, desire, and connection while working toward a healthier and more fulfilling relationship. Beyond foundational professional development on sex therapy, Kameela has training in supporting sex and trauma; pain; and integrating sex and couples therapy.
Do you offer virtual couples therapy?
Yes. In-person couples therapy is available in Bowmanville, Ontario, and secure virtual sessions are available for couples located anywhere in Ontario.
Will the therapist take sides?
No. In couples therapy, I see the relationship as my client. My role isn’t to decide who is right or wrong or to assign blame. Instead, I work to understand the experiences, needs, and perspectives of both partners while helping you identify the patterns that may be keeping your relationship stuck.
Together, we’ll focus on strengthening communication, deepening understanding, and developing healthier ways of navigating challenges that support the relationship as a whole.
Are there situations where couples therapy may not be appropriate?
Yes. While couples therapy can support many relationship challenges, there are situations where a different approach may be recommended. For example, if there is ongoing intimate partner violence, coercive control, or one partner does not feel physically or emotionally safe, or active addiction, couples therapy may not be appropriate until safety concerns have been addressed. Similarly, if one partner is unwilling to participate openly or is attending only to satisfy someone else without any intention of engaging in the process, therapy is unlikely to be effective.
If I’m concerned that couples therapy isn’t the right starting point, we’ll discuss the reasons together and explore alternative recommendations, such as individual therapy, safety planning, or other appropriate supports.
My priority is creating a therapeutic process that is safe, ethical, and most likely to benefit everyone involved.
